DJ Efrain “Frankie” Flores was born in Cleveland Ohio of Peruvian and Mexican descent with Salsa in his blood. He ignited his passion for music when he first started spinning house music in the basements of warehouses in Cleveland during the early 90s. It wasn’t until he came to NYC and was first expose to Salsa in its true grittiness that his true calling came to be. Although he has been playing for 15 years, he started his Salsa path about 4 years ago playing at small venues and festivals and meeting record dealers around the world. His choice of media…. Vinyl. He is currently the main resident DJ for the Baila Duro socials and festivals in Cleveland and is working at keeping Classic Hard and Rare Salsa alive.
His main focus as an entertainer is to feed the dancing spirit in everyone by balancing the focus of popular and rare music on the dance floor. His mission is making the old sound new again and exposing music that emphasizes the best part of the “Bailables”. He is currently working with other DJs such as Antonio La Conga (NYC) and Nilson (Toronto) that have the same mission and passion in keeping the music alive and currently spends the rest of his time learning more about the history of Salsa from people who have been there. A lot of his motivation comes from really watching others get into the music.
Although he grew up in the Latin household, he really didn’t start dancing until 6 years ago. It was then he began to connect the relationship of music and dance. He always felt that a lot of DJs would play music at clubs that were really meant for listening and never understood the phenomena of “DJs who never knew how to dance”. It was here that he started to look for music that was made exclusively for dancing and found that there are literally thousands of artists and music on vinyl that never really got a lot of play due to politics in the music industry.
His first major gig was in Tokyo, working with Jonathan Shimokado and DJ Samurai and after that you can say is history in the making. He has played at various Salsa Festivals throughout the Midwest, East Coast, and Toronto including the 2008-2009 Winter Salsa Carnival, 2009 DC Salsa Congress, and will open the 2009 La Vieja Guardia Anniversary Festival in NYC.
Antonio Pabon developed his natural talent for art and music as a child while growing in his vibrant native Puerto Rico. Like Puerto Rico, his artistic specialty captures the heart’s fancy and the mind’s fantasy. At the age of fourteen Tony created a small business painting school kid’s gym shoes, hats and backpacks with the latest rock band logos and recording tapes with the latests tunes. As a college student his innovative silk screens capture a lion’s share of the south west Puerto Rican market, while spinning the latest hits during the weekends. This classically trained artist/dj is available for murals, portraits, weddings, parties or for your whimsical and imaginative caricature.
